White always exudes a classic, elegant charm. Something befitting royalty. In a tropical country like India, where there is a lot of dust, maintaining such pristine bags is a tough task. As such you find less of these pure white bags here. Nevertheless, Hidesign, having made many firsts already, is one of the few brands to have bags with white variants. I checked out the La Rambla 01, Broadway 02 and Fiori 02 Ranch at a mall over the weekend.
La Rambla 01 is a twin handle bag with no provision for cross-body carrying. It has gold hardware and the brand name text is also in gold. The central section has two main compartments each with its own zip. There is a phone pouch inside one of the main compartments and an inner zippered section inside the other. On the exterior, there is a pouch at the backside. It is good for quick access, those not requiring much security as there is no closure to this pouch.
Choose the bag if you are fine with the minimal compartments and no-hands-free feature. It retails for INR 5,295 on Jabong.com.
Broadway 02 plugs the gap in La Rambla – it comes with a longer handle, apart from the short ones, for slinging over the shoulder. But the caveat is, there is no external pouch whatsoever. There is one main compartment that is internally divided into two with a central divider zippered pouch. There is a smaller pouch inside that runs almost the entire length of the bag; also a zippered pouch of the same length is present in the other central section. This one too has gold hardware. I preferred the Broadway over the La Rambla, if I had to make a choice, as the design is sleeker. But I miss a quick access section on the outside. I could not find a good picture of it in white, hence posting below a red variant of this bag. It costs the same as the La Rambla.
Fiori 02 Ranch is the best of the lot according to me, as the design is really sleek. The pleated gussets at the bottom lend it a soft look. It is minimal in terms of storage sections, with just one main compartment having a magnetic snap closure, one inner zippered compartment and two pouches. But there is one zippered section on the exterior as well running almost the length of the bag. The theme of gold hardware continues here as well. The only little drawback per me, are the rolled leather handles, which could be uncomfortable during extended periods of carrying the bag. Though my favourite is the Fiori 02 Ranch, white bags are not really my cup of tea, as I prefer my bags to be almost maintenance free, which is clearly not the case here. Perhaps while visiting hill stations or cold countries or during formal dos, these might prove to be a near-perfect companion.
