There is something about clutches that makes them really desirable. It’s not much about storage space anyway – most of them can fit it only the essentials. It is more of a style statement – like I have highlighted in a few of my recent posts – the Bottega Veneta Satin Knot or the Alexander McQueen Knuckle Box.

Our very own Hidesign has a very attractive clutch under its umbrella that I saw a few weeks ago and got the chance to check it out in person during the long weekend just gone by. It is the Via Bagutta Maori Beak. I love it for its different silhouette that sets it apart from the rectangular box clutches. It is not rigid but bendable due to the soft leather, which has been used to make the clutch double over to also play the role of a flap.

It has an interwoven pattern of leather, reminding so much of the Bottega Veneta clutch, though the “straps” are much thicker. The only hardware to be seen is the twist-lock. The flap is not too long either and hence does not waste much space in the clutch; just a little pulled over. There is a zippered pocket on the inside and that’s it. But as we already saw, clutches cannot be expected to score on the storage front – they serve a different purpose altogether.

The Hidesign logo sits pretty and aptly at the back of the clutch. There is no external zipper.

The clutch I saw at the store was maroon in color. The dimensions are 28 X 18 X 6 cms. The leather used is vegetable tanned Maori, which apparently has no cuts and joins. It retails for around INR 3,800, though you can watch out for sales and coupon codes at sites like Jabong.
