Margaret Thatcher and the Bag she Immortalized

Margaret Thatcher

When the first female Prime Minister of a country such as the United Kingdom, patronizes a handbag, it will most definitely go down the pages of history and find itself a permanent place there. It is another feat for the bag to be featured in a statue honouring the late politician – yes, the bag was so inseparable in all her public appearances that there is a proposal to include it in her statue.

The bag in question here is the Launer Bellini Handbag from the lesser known house of Launer. It would not be incorrect to say that the late PM’s association with the bag almost turned the house’s fortunes around. The bag itself has a very simple and austere design, perhaps the very traits that drew the lady to it. It has a single top handle and a front flap bearing the Launer logo. I think the length of the handle and the dimensions of the bag are perfectly in proportion and just the right size to be worn on the arm without causing intrusion.

The bag is hard-cased and made of calf leather on the exterior and suede lining on the interior. It has two main sections and a zippered pocket. The dimensions of the bag are Length 24cm x Height 19cm x Base 7 cm. There are over ten colors to customize your bag in. This bag is made-to-order and the company delivers it in 2-3 weeks. The price is expensive at £1,025, but that doesn’t come as a surprise. Interestingly, the Queen also has an affinity to Launer bags.
