Hidesign’s Maasai Collection Is Inspired By Rich African Tribal Heritage

Hideign Maasai Collection

Africa is the ultimate destination for adventure and wildlife lovers. Its vast lands are dotted with not only flora and fauna but also picturesque landscapes and aboriginal tribals. Every speck of this land offers liberal doses of inspiration. No wonder then that Hidesign’s latest collection is influenced by the Maasai tribe, after its founder Mr. Dilip Kapur visited the acclaimed Maasai Mara region.

The collection consists of a range of wallets and handbags starting from an affordable INR 2,495. The signature Maasai red is the shade that appeals to me the most, as do the trendy guitar straps. The colorful bead work and thread work add a unique dimension to this fantastic collection. What truly stands out is the contemporary twist to the tribal motifs and heritage, all coming to life on Hidesign’s trusted leather. These leather bags are sure to find purpose in many an occasion for today’s globetrotting woman. The collection also offers a couple of men’s bags. Do check out the detailed images and the press release below.

THE MAASAI COLLECTION BY HIDESIGN

The tall and fiercely independent Maasai, proud warriors of Africa, evoke images of great natural beauty, heritage and grace. They are known for living in harmony with the richest wildlife in the world in the African grasslands. Hidesign has been inspired by this harmony with nature, and their great heritage of craftsmanship.

The Maasai collection exemplifies Hidesign’s commitment to innovative design and detailed craftsmanship, as displayed by the hand stitching of fine beads on leather and sand casted brass accessories. The earthy leather, especially developed for this range has a heavy grain that is further highlighted by hand colouring a two-tone effect. The bags are available in tan, brown and the signature red of the Maasai.

The collection has been designed by Hidesign’s Founder & President, Mr. Dilip Kapur, after a visit to Maasai Mara, earlier this year. Mr. Kapur’s vision was to ‘create a modern collection for the international woman.’ Steering away from stereotypical interpretations of the tribe, the range contains contemporary shapes with subtle influences such as colourful bead work on detachable guitar straps, which are a global trend.

The Maasai Collection, consisting of wallets and handbags, starts from INR 2495/- and will be available at select Hidesign stores in India and at www.hidesign.com

About the author

Vidya Gupta

Mother to three lovely boys and wife of a banking professional, I am extremely passionate about a host of topics, bags being one of them. For the record, the others are - makeup, travel, photography, in no particular order. Here I share my perspective on the Indian as well as the international bag-scene. As a youngster I would spend most of my money on bags and carry one according to my outfit. It is this love that I express through this blog. Needless to say, any suggestions for improvement, even healthy criticisms, are highly encouraged. Hope you enjoy your stay here and find something useful to help you on your next bag purchase!
